What to wear on rainy summer days - fashion essentials to see you through the wet weather
How to make sure your daily wardrobe survives the August washout
If you were hoping for a heatwave this month, we're sorry to be the bearers of bad news, but it looks like August is going to be a washout .
While we're hoping our sandals and sun dresses will get another outing before autumn sets in (fingers crossed) it can be a nightmare getting dressed in the mornings with such unpredictable weather.
And there's the humidity of the tube to deal with on your commute, as well as the arctic office aircon... sigh.
But if you're British, you know the key to rainy days is layering, and with that in mind, here are our fashion must-haves to help see you through, come hail or shine.
1. Tailored wide leg cropped trouser, £10.25, JD Williams
There's nothing worse than damp trouser hems, so avoid puddle splashes with cropped culottes. Team with a striped blouse for work and swap for a knit and trainers come the weekend.
2. Striped shift dress with boat neck, £10.50, LaRedoute.co.uk
You can't go wrong with a classic Breton dress and this one works for all kinds of occasions, plus the long sleeve will keep you warm under the aircon chill.
3. Polka dot umbrella, £14, Accessorize
A practical essential and small enough to pop in your tote bag.
4. Red Funday print long sleeved jumper, £19.99, New Look
We love a slogan top and this one will brighten up any rainy day.
5. White Embroidered Stud Detail Trainers, £22.99, New Look
Embroidery is here to stay for AW17 and these will allow you to jog from home to the tube in minutes... just avoid those puddles.
6. MOTO Dark Blue Mom Jeans, £40, Topshop
Where would we be without high waisted jeans? Team with a blouse and roll up the hems for a stylish off-duty look.
7. Black block heel Chelsea boots, £60, River Island
While your feet might cry about being put in boots again, these will be your saviour over soggy sandals and then you're ready, come autumn.
8. Stone Oversized Trench Coat, £79, Miss Selfridge
A classic trench works for the transitional season and is the chicest of outerwear for rainy summer days.
