UN Peacekeeper Killed in Mali
Bamako, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) A soldier died in an attack carried out today by an armed group against a UN mission checkpoint in Mali (MINUSMA), in the northern town of Duentza.
According to security sources, the incident occurred at 05:00 (local time), when men carrying automatic weapons fired the place, which sparked off a shooting with the MINUSMA troops and Malian Armed Forces (FAMA).
That attack lasted for about two hours, and killed two attackers, while a soldier was injured.
FAMA troops were deployed immediately around the scene of the attack, but no details were given of the operations following the attack, it is presumed that some IS fundamentalist group is involved in.
Malian authorities are facing up a situation of tension that has lasted since the 2012 coup d'etat, when Tuareg rebel teams, along with extremist organizations have been controlling the northern region for 10 months.
Theoretically these terror groups were driven out of this region in January 2013, but vast areas of the country not much controlled by the State are used to carry out terror attacks on Malian Army and MINUSMA troops.
